Five Takhat Yatra (India)

The Five Takhts, also known as Panj Takht, are the five highest seats of authority of Sikhism. Visiting all five Takhts is a lifelong dream for many Sikhs, and is known as a Panj Takht Yatra. Here’s a list of the five Takhts:

Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar
Established by Guru Hargobind Sahib in 1609, it is the highest seat of temporal authority of Sikhism. It is located within the Amritsar complex, right next to the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple).

Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, Anandpur Sahib
Established by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699, it is where the Khalsa, the Sikh community, was formally established in 1699.

Takht Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded
It marks the place where Guru Gobind Singh Ji breathed his last in 1708.

Takht Sri Patna Sahib, Patna
The birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru of Sikhism, in 1666. It is also the place where Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Guru, had stayed for a while.

Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo
Established in 1705, it is where Guru Gobind Singh Ji compiled the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism.
